Scion – Petro Campaign – Session 41

I’m taking a moment here to present a small update while the others are searching the Tally Man’s oil rig, which we just busted up. The rig looks like a pretty lucrative operation, and was certainly well defended, but we won’t know exactly the extent of its meaning until we’ve finished searching it.
We scoped the place out before attacking it, of course. There didn’t seem to be anything but zombies—both the normal kind and Macout—protecting it, but we did notice some odd tanks attached to the rig and floating just at the surface of the water. Adam and Elisa also pointed out a series of beams and other more recent, unfinished construction and scaffolding that didn’t quite look like it belonged to the rest of the structure. We all assumed (rightly) that those portions of the rig hid some other form of defense.
We decided that most of us would drop in from above on the flying mounts and attack head-on, taking out the Macout and any other major defenses as quickly as possible. I didn’t know what the hell I’d do against Macout (they’re just too tough and brain dead for me to fight them effectively), but I went anyway, and brought Tabby and Audrey with me to help protect me…and they did a good job. Ray also assigned Konoko to the task of looking out for me, and I was very glad to have her help! ^_^ Meanwhile, the rest of our followers, including Ray’s posse and my shikome, would come in on boats and neutralize the normal zombies guarding the rig.
Before beginning the attack, we simply had to know what was in the huge tanks attached to the rig, since they were obviously different from the tanks used to store oil. Ray dove into the water and, while hidden beneath the waves, tapped on one of the tanks and summoned its kami. The kami didn’t know exactly what was inside the tank, only that it was a blue liquid with a strong odor, and that it could be released into the water if necessary. It wasn’t an inherently dangerous chemical, so we assumed that it must be used to attract something. We found out what a little later.
The combat took longer than I think we were expecting, but we were victorious in the end. Everything went more-or-less according to plan, though as usual, aside from what was going on immediately around me, most of it was a blur. Our followers cleaned up the regular zombies no problem. Those of us up top, however, had our hands full fighting not just Macout, but also the very superstructure of the oil rig, which animated and attack us with “tentacles” made of chains and girders—the odd unfinished construction Adam and Elisa had pointed out. While Ray, Suchette (who is really strong, by the way!), Elisa, and the others mostly focused on destroying as many of those rig-tentacles as possible, T-Bone, Konoko, Tabby, Audrey, and me tried to deal with the Macout…with mixed success. Those bastards are just too tough! We were able to deal with a few of them, and Tabby and Audrey demonstrated some fabulous teamwork. ^_^ Elisa and Ray had to come in and help out too of course. Both Konoko and Audrey were badly hurt. I healed Konoko by rubbing her elbow ^_^, but when Audrey went down my heart sank. I didn’t want to lose another shikome…as unavoidable as that might be in the future. Fortunately, she was still alive, so I cradled her in my arms and gave her a deep, sensuous kiss to heal her and get her back on her feet.
As soon as our attack started, an alarm went up throughout the rig and someone, or something, activated one of the tanks attached to the oil rig. As we feared, it spilled a blue chemical into the ocean. There was no immediate effect, but before long another of the rig’s defenders appeared, summoned by the water-borne scent of the chemical. It was a huge, and I mean huge giant squid! I’m talking a kraken here. Images of getting dragged underwater, never to be seen again flashed through my mind, but I really shouldn’t have been worried. No one steps to the Shogun of Harlem without feeling the bite of his swords, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Ray flew from the oil rig into the water with a huge splash, and the next thing I knew, the kraken had been thrown from the ocean into the air. As it hung there for a few split seconds, Ray rocketed out of the ocean and his swords slashed and sliced with such incredible speed and ferocity that the kraken was sent crashing back into the water as little more than sashimi. And that was that.
In the end, we cleaned up the rest of the rig-tentacles and Macout, leaving the rig more-or-less in our hands. We were able to salvage some chains from the tentacles that act as relics to protect one from oil (you know, being drowned in it and such), but I’m not sure what we’re going to do with those aside from letting Ray put them in his trophy room. I’ve just been seeing to our follower’s wounds while the others search the place, looking for more clues to help us zero in on the Tally Man. I think I’ll call and check in on Echo and Rose and then go see how the others are doing in their search.
