We’re en route now to New Zealand. Why New Zealand? Well, I suppose that requires some explaining. Really, though, nothing much has happened since last I wrote, not compared to the excitement of the past couple of days, anyway.
As I think I mentioned before, we headed to Ireland from Iceland to see if the servants of the Tuatha could help provide some direction for us. After all, they likely know more about Crom Cruach than anyone. Furthermore, I wanted to help Tanith look good in front of her allies, and I’ll admit that I was also hoping to get see Aife again and maybe get Siobhan to renew the geasa that empowers my shikome elites.
As it turns out, I wasn’t able to get in touch with either Aife or Siobhan. >_< Apparently they’re involved in something with the Unseelie Court in the Underworld and were out of touch when I called. Instead, we left candy and flowers at a fae-touched site in the hopes of attracting Hobnail’s attention (our Seelie pooka friend loves candy and flowers). He’s probably the best contact we have with the Tuatha aside from Aife. He eventually showed up and contributed to our plans, but unfortunately couldn’t tell us much that we hadn’t already learned by that point.
I was able to visit with Claire again, though. She’s doing well, though things aren’t any better with her daughter. She and Tabby enjoyed spending some time together, I was sure to watch Tabby like a hawk. She desperately wants to turn Claire, and though I don’t think she’d willfully defy my wishes by following through on that desire, I’d hate for her to loose control and do something foolish. I wouldn’t mind having Claire as a shikome elite—she’d make a great matron for my girls. But she’s a valuable mortal servant of the Tuatha, and I’m not going to poach other pantheon’s servants if I can help it.
When I returned from visiting Claire, Adam asked for my help in setting up his seismograph equipment near the hotel where we were staying with Hod. Of course, he didn’t need my help setting it up, but we wanted the machine to alert us if it detected any weird activity. You know, like servants of Crom Cruach burrowing around in the vicinity. So I attached an extra cell phone to the machine and asked the kami of the seismograph equipment to tell the kami of the phone to give me a call if it detected anything weird. They were both happy to help, especially after I bribed each with a shot of strong Irish whiskey. ^_^ It turns out the seismograph wasn’t really necessary—no titanspawn showed up while we were in Ireland—but better safe than sorry, right?
While Adam and I were busy with all that and Pierre and Elisa were off enjoying each other’s company, Ray flew off to Magh Slecht (Crom Cruach’s local stronghold and the place we invaded to get the stagnant water we needed to kill the Black Dog of Cailleach last time we were in Ireland). He did really say anything about what he did there, but he seemed pretty satisfied, so he probably either killed a bunch of Titanspawn or otherwise messed the place up somehow. ^_^
Meanwhile, T-Bone drifted among the local bars and eventually ran into an impressive woman named Lenore Corbin, who turned out to be a daughter of the Morrigan. T-Bone says she was a bit brusque at first but that she softened up under the onslaught of his charms…but that might have just been T-Bone talking. ^_^ Anyway, she wanted to make sure that we weren’t going to screw things up for her. See, she’s busy monitoring some titanspawn activity on a nearby island where Crom Cruach’s formorians and other corrupted fae beasts (mostly kelpies, I gather) are searching for mystically hidden and buried artifacts including the Triumph Casque of Sorrows (I don’t know much about it, but it sounds bad) and the key to the Casket of Ancient Winters, an artifact that could hasten the advent of the Winter of Fate. Given the recent conference between Demeter and Hod, is kinda scary. It really sounds like the titans are trying bring about this Ancient Winter. >_<
Lenore and her servants (mostly Tuatha-aligned bean sidhe, I think) have been watching the formorians’ activities and are planning to sweep in to steal the Casque once it’s been unearthed. We briefly discussed helping her out. I thought it might be a good opportunity to help Tanith prove herself, so I suggested that she, T-Bone, and I could go undercover to investigate (I’d turn myself into a kelpie). But Tanith didn’t seem very interested. She was a little worried that the presence of so many tainted beings would be bad for her, and felt that Lenore probably had things under control. So in the end, we left it to Lenore, choosing (wisely, I think) to focus on our priority objectives: protecting Hod and keeping him away from the competition.
Oh, and to complicate things, it turns out the competition is moving around for each day’s events. The next site is Sweden, so that’s somewhere else to avoid.
There was one good aspect to the local titanspawn activity, though. Because Crom Cruach didn’t want to draw too much attention to his activities off shore, his servants were trying not to cause any big scenes anywhere nearby, so we weren’t attacked during our day in Ireland, even by the time-dogs. ^_^
Of course, we couldn’t hang out in Ireland forever. Adam got word from his Aesir contact that Persephone had overheard Zeus ordering the fury Tisiphone to go and track down Hod. So now we have a Fury on our tails. We spent some time deciding what to do. Tisiphone can track us virtually anywhere, but if her tracking abilities work like Anna’s do, she’ll have to follow our trail, so the more we move around, the harder it will be for her to find us. Plus, Persephone told her that she thought Hod was staying in a different hotel in Reykjavik, not the 101 Hotel. Having no clear starting point should slow Tisphone down a bit. ^_^
We threw around some ideas for where to go next. I suggested the Mountain of Resurrection in Shikoku. I thought it would be good since it would be hard to track us there and the local earth kami we redeemed could help defend Hod against Crom Cruach’s earth-based titanspawn. But we decided against it since we didn’t want Crom Cruach to taint the place again. We also discussed using mystical touchstones to travel instantly from place to place, but discarded the idea when we realized that Tisiphone could use the touchstones just as easily and we’d make better flying from place to place than she could on her own.
Ultimately, we decided to fly to New Zealand. It’s about halfway around the world from Iceland, which should stall the Fury for a while, and Adam says there’s a touchstone there that we can use if necessary. So that’s where we’re headed now! ^_^ All except for Ray. As usual, Mr. Independent’s doing his own thing, and he stayed behind to check out the formorian dig site. I hope he doesn’t cause any trouble for Lenore. >_<
Of course, before we left Ireland, Pierre and Elisa went to pick Quinn up from the airport. She was excited to see them. I guess her pregnancy is making her feel more needy than usual, because she’s been glued to Pierre and Elisa since she arrived! I’m still worried about using her to defy the Earthshaker’s geasa. I can’t bear the thought of her or her child being hurt or killed in the battle. But Elisa insists that she make out with Quinn and not me to break the Earthshaker’s defenses…and I guess I can understand that. Elisa’s kinda new to this whole bisexual thing, after all. ^_^
In other news, things are looking dim in the Overworld. The Pesedjet are having a hard time of things thanks to the temporary withdrawal of the Aesir and Dodekatheon, and even though the Tuatha are doing their best to fill the gap, the titans are having a field day. To make matters worse, Ra has gone missing, and the entire area surrounding Egypt and the Middle East is covered in darkness. >_< I’m really scared about what that might mean. I tried calling Carina and then Sam, hoping that they’d know more about what was going on, but they were both out of touch. I hope they’re okay…
Sigh. I miss Rose. I want to go back to Red Mountain right now and pick her up and hold her and shower her with affection. But at least Echo is here with me now, and at least I know Rose is in good hands with Mercy, Miko, and Pierre’s daughters. Still, I’ll be glad when this week is over.
