Sarenith 17-20, 4710

The following morning, the group picks up and makes their way further into the unexplored wilderness of the Narlmarches as Jhod returned to the Temple of the Elk.

As the push on, they discover a dead unicorn lying at a foul smelling fetid pool. Investigating the death, they find it odd that no amount of decomposition or decay has set in, and no insects—which are quite prevalent in the area—seem interested in the corpse. After some investigation, the group determined that the Unicorn was killed using a Primal casting of Finger of Death, and that “acts of some powerful fey creatures from the First World can leave their victims “marked”—their bodies shed a strange aura that repels natural life, as if animals and vermin could sense the anger of such powerful fey and know better than to involve themselves with such a victim.”

They then began to carve up the Unicorn to eat it, while Miz plans to make Unicorn Glue.

The group moves on and eventually comes to a wide tangle of brambles block their path. A Tiny voice from above cries out, cautioning them that they were not allowed to pass without paying the toll! When asked how much the toll was, the group quickly agreed to the 5g demanded, surprising the toll-takers who mentioned they should probably have charged more. The toll-takers were revealed to be a group of Twigjacks!

What followed was a series of back and forth exchanges of money as Nix convinced them that 10 copper was worth more than 5 gold (because there are more of them!), but then Miz and Princess Bea gave them more Gold. When asked why they wanted it, they simply said “to have it!” (as any good capitalist would). However, the kindness and charity of Miz and Princess Bea earned them a warning that truly monstrous Dragonflies lay in a glade ahead and that they should be careful or they’ll get eaten. The group also learned of a large city of Boggards off in the Hooktongue Slough, and its general location.

Not long afterwards, the group found themselves in a fight with truly enormous Dragonflies that threatened to carry many of them off into the Hooktongue Slough for feasting, but luckily the group managed to dispatch the hungry insects before they escaped with anyone or killed anyone.

They then set to recouperating and resting after the hard fight, while investigating a staff (A Greater Staff of Water) they found with a long since decayed corpse in the area.
