Dramatis Personae: New Dawn

Desnus 12, 4710

The delegation from New Dawn had met with Hargulka—The Troll King—Ken-Noth stepping forwrd to speak.

An attempt was made to forge a peace with the nascent “monster nation”, however, Hargulka seemed so certain of his own position of strength and power and believed the human nations to be weak. He framed everything he said as New Dawn capitulating—even being subservient—to the monster nation. Levying ridiculous demands, such as monster be free to eat whomever they wish, and while humanoids could attempt to defend themselves, killing a “monster” was not allowed. When providing alternative food for them was mentioned, they agreed that should New Dawn be able to provide them offerings of large numbers of cattle and other sources of food regularly, New Dawn would be spared the worst of the nations hunting. A proposition that would tax the young nation and essentially have them paying a “protection racket.”

As they fled they heard the doors get thrown open, and the chuckles and roars of laughter from the Trolls followed them out of the keep.

They didn’t run far, however, and began to explore the area, discovering what looked to be a natural tunnel some 40 feet up, perhaps, another entrance into the keep. Bell, using an invisibility potion made their way up the cliff and into the tunnel, discovering Troll hounds and some creature that would later be revealed to be a Cave Troll. The swashbuckler explored as much as they dared and got a pretty solid lay of the land—though at the cost of several near calls—before finally returning to explain what they had seen.

With reconnaissance done, the group forced their way into the Troll Keep and began to fight their way through…
